A Day at Tybee Island in Georgia

by Sharon Harrison

A nice little getaway that is close to Savannah is Tybee Island. We took a short Uber ride out there and spent several hours enjoying the sun, the sand, and the surf. It started out a calm, sunny day, but clouds settled in and everyone ran for cover under the roof of the pier pavilion. They sold food and drinks, so we had lunch, watched the rain, and then went back out when it quit raining. Despite the rain, it was a great day!

The Uber driver dropped us off at the beach near the pier pavilion, so we carried our stuff out to the beach and took in the sun. We walked down the pier to see lots of fishermen throwing out their lines. Views were great of the beach from the end of the pier.

There are a number of little shops near the beach. We stepped inside for a little souvenir shopping. One of the stores had this funny little sign in the window...

When it started to rain again, we ducked into Doc's Bar, where we found some cute t-shirts and cold drinks!

Tybee Island was a nice beach. It was not too crowded. There were bathrooms at the pier, food and drink was available, and there were cute little shops nearby. I highly recommend this spot on a sunny day....or even if there is a little rain!
