THINGS TO CONSIDER
How many people will be going with you on vacation? How many bedrooms do you need? How will the costs be split up?
If the house has a bedroom with bunkbeds, will someone be willing to take that room?
How much will the the flights be? Be sure to check different dates to determine when is the cheapest date to fly.
Will you need to fly to Miami and stay a night and catch a morning flight to St. Thomas?
Will you eat out a lot or cook at home a lot? Will you need a stocked kitchen or just the basics?
You can save money by traveling during the off-season, which is August through November, however, you must realize that temperatures and rainfall increase during that time.
Other lodging options are available, such as hotels and condos, which could be a cheaper option.
You will probably need a rental car to get around the island easier, as you will want to visit as many beaches as you can. You will also want to visit the towns for shopping, restaurants and bars. It is a lot easier to get around in the Virgin Islands if you have a rental car.
You might want to make sure the rental you get has its own generator because power does go out on the islands at times and having a generator can be very handy!
Always check the reviews and comments others leave about the place you plan to stay. You can check on the website you book on, but you can also check other websites, like TripAdvisor.
Get a guide book and a map of St. Thomas before you go.
Set a food budget and keep in mind that things are more expensive on an island.
Check out the ferry and consider visiting another island.
Take a tour of the island from a local. You can look for one at www.getyourguide.com or www.viator.com.
Do your research before you go and you could find a great rental at a great price and make lots of wonderful memories!
