A few years ago, my husband, Kelby, and I were able to snag a great deal to the Bahamas off of the Groupon Getaways site. We jumped at the chance to go experience the Bahamas. The deal was for the Breezes resort, which is an all-inclusive, right on the beach. All that was left to do was pack our bags!
Breezes was a very comfortable stay, not a high-end luxury place, but a very clean and nice place. It was a small resort, which I liked because you didn't have to walk far to get to the things you wanted to do. The pool was right outside the back door. The food was good and the nightly entertainment was awesome! They had a singer called Funky D that was hilarious, especially when he sang "The Big Bamboo". We enjoyed hanging out around the pool and at the beach. It was a very relaxing vacation.
One day we decided we wanted to venture out and see more of the island. The resort offered us a private tour for a very minimal fee. Our driver showed us all around the island, making several stops so we could get out and explore a little.
One of our stops was at the Queen's Staircase, which we took a walk up. We learned that the stairs are commonly referred to as the 66 Steps. They are a major landmark of the country. They were made out of limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794. They created a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City. The steps were later named in honor of Queen Victoria.
We walked around the market area and toured Fort Fincastle, which is where the first photo up above was taken. The fort was built in 1793 to protect the people from pirates.
As we drove along, the driver pointed out the historical buildings and interesting sites of Nassau. We went through the
downtown part of the city and then saw Parliament Square, which houses the famous pink government buildings. In the middle of the square sits a Queen Victoria statue.
The beaches of the Bahamas are really beautiful and the water is so clear and sparkling! We took a walk down the beach and there are so lovely resorts near Breezes. Every afternoon, we took a nap in hammocks by the beach, feeling the cool breeze and listening to the sound of the ocean. It was truly heaven!
TIPS:
One of the things we learned about by hanging out at the pool was that if you are wanting to go to Atlantis, you don't have to stay there. Just buy a day pass and it will save you a lot of money rather than staying at the resort.
When we were there, they had a rope on the beach to limit how close venders could get to the resort. People would walk along the beach trying to sell jewely, hats, sunglasses, and even drugs. If you stayed on the inside of the rope, people could not get too close to you. Or, once you said no, they left you alone. This may have changed as it's been several years since we were there.
Make sure your credit card is an international card that doesn't charge you a foreign exchange fee. They do take American dollars, so there is no need to get your dollars exchanged.
Take plenty of sunscreen!!!
